What exactly does water do?

We are always talking about water, for example, what is the right amount of it, the benefits of it on your mood, your mind, while exercising, before and after workout, etc. Right now we will talk about what does water do for our body. Why is the water so necessary. Check this out.

Balance Body Fluids
Essential to ensure that your body maintains its balance of fluids. 60% of the body is water and these fluids are necessary for maintaining body temperature, transporting nutrients, creating saliva, circulation, absorption and digestion. Whenever you are thirsty, you should always listen to your body and have something to drink.

Control Calories
Water itself won’t help you lose weight but when you choose to drink water instead of another beverage, it will help you cut caloric intake and therefore increasing weight loss. If you want to lose weight, you should always choose water or another drink without calories. It is also a good idea to try eating foods that are rich in water because they usually look bigger which means you need to chew them more. When you chew more, your body absorbs the food more slowly and as a result you will feel fuller. That’s why selecting water-rich foods such as beans, oatmeal, broth-based soups, fruits and vegetables can help you lose weight.

Energize Muscles
Water also helps energize our muscles. If our cells don’t have enough electrolytes and fluids they will shrivel and become fatigued, which can lead to decreased performance.

Maintain Normal Bowel Movement
Water is also crucial to normal bowel movements. That is because if you don’t have enough fluid in your body, your colon will take some water out of the stools and that will lead to constipation.

Make Your Skin Glow
If you are dehydrated, your skin will become wrinkled and dry. When you get plenty of water, however, your skin will help prevent you from losing excess amounts of fluid.

Improve Kidney Function
The fluids in your body work to transport waste products between cells. The kidneys are responsible for cleansing the body of any toxins such as blood urea nitrogen, which is water-soluble. But in order for the kidneys to work properly, we need to be properly hydrated. If you have enough fluids in your body, your urine will be odor-free and color-free but if you are dehydrated it will become more concentrated so your kidneys can store more water.

Detoxify Your Body
Drinking water is the most effective way to detoxify your body.

Regulate Body Temperature
Water is also the body’s way of keeping cool.

Lubricate Joints
Water is a huge component in the fluid that is responsible for cushioning and lubricating your joints. Although other factors are involved, being mildly dehydrated can increase your risk of getting muscle cramps which is why it is so important to stay hydrated while exercising.

Deliver Nutrients to the Body
Our bodies receive oxygen and nutrients through the bloodstream and because blood is 92% water, staying hydrated is crucial.

DANGERS OF DEHYDRATION.

Hi- drate ! It’s important. Usually, your body balances the amount of water you consume with the amount of water eliminated.
Certain circumstances such as prolonged physical activity, high air temperatures, high fever, diarrhea, trauma and burns increase the amount of water lost. If you don’t replace that water, you become dehydrated.
You can become dehydrated by not consuming enough fluid from foods and beverages. These are conditions that also can make dehydration more likely:
  • Sweating during exercise that is not compensated by drinking extra fluids; exercise even in cold weather can cause sweating
  • Hot, humid weather
  • High altitude, which causes rapid breathing and increased urine output
  • Illnesses such as poorly controlled diabetes, and illnesses that cause vomiting, diarrhea, or fever
  • Pregnancy
  • Certain medications

Alcoholic drinks also can make you urinate more frequently, but, like caffeine, this increase is short-term and usually does not cause dehydration if you drink in moderation.

Symptoms of dehydration

  • A dry or sticky mouth, caused by too little saliva
  • Less urine than normal, or no urine for eight hours. Urine that is darker than usual may indicate dehydration; diet, medications, and vitamin supplements can also affect urine color.
  • Few or no tears
  • Sunken eyes
  • Dry, cool skin
  • Fast heart rate
  • In infants, a sunken fontanel, the soft spot on the top of the head, may mean dehydration.
  • Lethargy, irritability or fatigue
  • Listlessness or coma; this is a sign of severe dehydration.

"You are what you eat ". You'll start taking it serious ...

You are what you eat, literally.

"What you eat is what you are putting in you body, the saying "You are what you eat" is literally true."
Lisa OzHealth Education

Every one of your cells is replaced in about seven years, and your food is what those new cells are made from. So take a good look at what you have got on your plate. It is about to be a part of you. If you want your body to perform at a peak level, make sure you are giving it good quality material to work with.

How do you feel after you eat? Do you feel strong, comfortable, invigorated, or do you feel bloated, stuffed, queasy, or nauseated? When you wake up in the morning, are you bright, alert, and ready to greet the day, or do you feel sluggish, exhausted, or congested? Answer these questions honestly, and be aware of the ways in which your body is trying to communicate with you about your food choices. If it is not totally happy, change what you are doing.

Health benefits of drinking lemon infused water ...

Lemon in water has many medicinal values, as well as its benefits for cleansing the body, stimulating the liver, and improving digestion and elimination.

Lemon water helps to alkalize the body and control the proliferation of unhealthy bacteria and viruses.

11 Benefits of Lemon Water

1. Gives your immune system a boost.

Vitamin C is like our immune system’s jumper cables, and lemon juice is full of it. The level of vitamin C in your system is one of the first things to plummet when you’re stressed, which is why experts recommended popping extra vitamin C during especially stressful days.

2. Excellent source of potassium.

As already mentioned, lemons are high in potassium, which is good for heart health, as well as brain and nerve function.

3. Aids digestion.

Lemon juice not only encourages healthy digestion by loosening toxins in your digestive tract, it helps to relieve symptoms of indigestion such as heartburn, burping, and bloating.

4. Cleanses your system.

It helps flush out the toxins in your body by enhancing enzyme function, stimulating your liver.

5. Freshens your breath.

It also helps relieve toothaches and gingivitis (say wha?). Because the citric acid can erode tooth enamel, either hold off on brushing your teeth after drinking lemon water or brush your teeth before drinking it.

6. Keeps your skin blemish-free.

The antioxidants in lemon juice help to not only decrease blemishes, but wrinkles too! It can also be applied to scars and age spots to reduce their appearance, and because it’s detoxifying your blood, it will maintain your skin’s radiance.

7. Helps you lose weight.

Lemons contain pectin fiber, which assists in fighting hunger cravings.

8. Reduces inflammation.

If you drink lemon water on a regular basis, it will decrease the acidity in your body, which is where disease states occur. It removes uric acid in your joints, which is one of the main causes of inflammation.

9. Gives you an energy boost.

Lemon juice provides your body with energy when it enters your digestive tract, and it also helps reduce anxiety and depression. (Even the scent of lemons has a calming effect on your nervous system!)

10. Helps to cut out caffeine.

I didn’t believe this until I tried it, but replacing my morning coffee with a cup of hot lemon water has really done wonders! I feel refreshed, and no longer have to deal with that pesky afternoon crash. Plus, my nerves are thankful.

11. Helps fight viral infections.

Warm lemon water is the most effective way to diminish viral infections and their subsequent sore throats. Plus, with the lemon juice also boosting your immune system, you’ll simultaneously fight off the infection completely.
