Water Wonders Besides Hydration ...

Stay slimmer with water:

Drinking more water also helps pump up your metabolism -- especially if your glass is icy cold. Your body must work to warm the water up, burning a few extra calories in the process.

Water boosts your energy:

If you're getting enough water, your heart also doesn’t have to work as hard to pump blood throughout your body.

Lower stress with water:

To keep stress levels down, keep a glass of water at your desk or carry a sports bottle and sip regularly

Build muscle tone with water:

Drinking water helps prevent muscle cramping and lubricates joints in the body. When you're well hydrated, you can exercise longer and stronger without "hitting the wall."

Nourish your skin:

Drinking water hydrates skin cells and plumps them up, making your face look younger.

Do you really need to drink eight cups of water a day?

On average, your body loses 1 to 1.5 litres of water a day. If someone is undertaking a lot of activity, and therefore breathing and sweating more, they would lose more.
Dr Barnard says: 'It is not essential to always drink a set amount regardless of circumstances. The body is very good at regulating water.
'If you drink too much, your body will get rid of the excess, so you will pass urine more often and it will look almost clear.
'If you don't drink enough, your body will save water by concentrating your urine, which will look darker, and your brain will tell you that you need more water by making you feel thirsty.'
Another thing to keep in mind is that water is found in fruits, vegetables, milk and juices. Water from these sources will go some way to meeting your daily requirements, so people do not need to drink a full eight glasses of water on top of this.

Infused Water over Sports Drinks

For those who are wondering, what is infused water and why should I drink it? Here's a simply answer to that question.

There are products with electrolytes in the market, hydration drinks (or sport drinks) contains electrolytes and usually contains a high amount of sodium, and sugar. Sodium will assist the body on liquid retention during dehydration while practicing sports, exercising or working out. Sugar will only give a good flavor and a little bit of energy. Because of it, it is not recommended drinking any sports drink, if we don't really need that extra help for our body and if aren't really working out, most likely, that non burned sugar will become fat, if it's not converted to energy on the right time.

A way to stay hydrated while working out, exercising, at school, work, while walking or any other activity is just drinking simple water. Sometimes, just drinking water may result boring, and there's were the fruit infused water takes and important role. The only thing you have to do is put some fruit into your bottle of water, and you are ready to go.

A way to improve the absorption of water, in order to increase the flavor on it, is using hot water. You can prepare your hot water infused bottle one hour before going out, and add some ice when leaving, this way you'll have more flavor on it, and it will be refreshing when you need it.

Autumn, stay Hydrated

Well, summer is almost over and weather is easy to remember to stay hydrated during this hot season, we must not forget to stay hydrated during the Autumn too. We will still need our 8 cups of refreshing water every day. Here are some refreshing ways to stay hydrated during this Autumn and keep your brain focus on class.

As we have discussed before, disposable water bottles are not environment friendly so they are a terrible decision, long term speaking, to drink the water you need every week.

Recommendation: Get your own non-disposable water bottle and take it where you need to.
For people that doesn't like the taste of pure water, there's a great way to add flavor to the water, without using sugar. Using Infuser water bottles is an easy way to add the natural flavor to your beverage, you can do it daily without any additional effort and stay healthy, just put the fruit in the basket and add water.

What exactly does water do?

We are always talking about water, for example, what is the right amount of it, the benefits of it on your mood, your mind, while exercising, before and after workout, etc. Right now we will talk about what does water do for our body. Why is the water so necessary. Check this out.

Balance Body Fluids
Essential to ensure that your body maintains its balance of fluids. 60% of the body is water and these fluids are necessary for maintaining body temperature, transporting nutrients, creating saliva, circulation, absorption and digestion. Whenever you are thirsty, you should always listen to your body and have something to drink.

Control Calories
Water itself won’t help you lose weight but when you choose to drink water instead of another beverage, it will help you cut caloric intake and therefore increasing weight loss. If you want to lose weight, you should always choose water or another drink without calories. It is also a good idea to try eating foods that are rich in water because they usually look bigger which means you need to chew them more. When you chew more, your body absorbs the food more slowly and as a result you will feel fuller. That’s why selecting water-rich foods such as beans, oatmeal, broth-based soups, fruits and vegetables can help you lose weight.

Energize Muscles
Water also helps energize our muscles. If our cells don’t have enough electrolytes and fluids they will shrivel and become fatigued, which can lead to decreased performance.

Maintain Normal Bowel Movement
Water is also crucial to normal bowel movements. That is because if you don’t have enough fluid in your body, your colon will take some water out of the stools and that will lead to constipation.

Make Your Skin Glow
If you are dehydrated, your skin will become wrinkled and dry. When you get plenty of water, however, your skin will help prevent you from losing excess amounts of fluid.

Improve Kidney Function
The fluids in your body work to transport waste products between cells. The kidneys are responsible for cleansing the body of any toxins such as blood urea nitrogen, which is water-soluble. But in order for the kidneys to work properly, we need to be properly hydrated. If you have enough fluids in your body, your urine will be odor-free and color-free but if you are dehydrated it will become more concentrated so your kidneys can store more water.

Detoxify Your Body
Drinking water is the most effective way to detoxify your body.

Regulate Body Temperature
Water is also the body’s way of keeping cool.

Lubricate Joints
Water is a huge component in the fluid that is responsible for cushioning and lubricating your joints. Although other factors are involved, being mildly dehydrated can increase your risk of getting muscle cramps which is why it is so important to stay hydrated while exercising.

Deliver Nutrients to the Body
Our bodies receive oxygen and nutrients through the bloodstream and because blood is 92% water, staying hydrated is crucial.

Muscle Recovery. You must know

Letting muscles rest is the most important part of exercising. Overall, for most exercises, resting 48 hours should be sufficient, but always consult your instructor and pay attention to your body signals.

Excessive recovery, however, may impact directly on your performance. According to American Fitness Professionals and Associates, after 96 hours changes associated with muscle atrophy begin. Although a split session targets each area twice per week, more time and higher intensities can be used.

Other factor on muscle recovery related to nutrition: fluid and electrolyte status (hydration), muscle glycogen, reducing muscle stress and rebuilding muscle protein.

Taking in fluids and carbohydrates both during and immediately after a workout, says Fitzgerald, is vital to a speedy recovery. You should eat a high-protein meal as soon after exercising as possible in order to ensure a rapid rebuilding of muscle tissue.

Take also in mind these facts:

  • Larger Muscles Require More Recovery Time
  • Larger Numbers of Muscles Requires More Recovery Time
  • More Training Requires More Recovery Time

What you didn't know about Water

In its purest form, it's odorless, nearly colorless and tasteless. It's in your body, the food you eat and the beverages you drink. You can travel on it or jump in it to cool off on hot summer days. All forms of life need it, and if they don't get enough of it, they die. What substance is more necessary to our existence than any other? Water.

The amount of fluid lost from the body is equal to the amount of fluid taken in. Water is necessary for all life on Earth. Humans can survive for 4–6 weeks without food, but for only a few days without water.

Profuse sweating can increase the need for electrolyte (salt) replacement. Water intoxication (which results in hypothermia), the process of consuming too much water too quickly, can be fatal.

  • Drinking water helps heartburn by diluting your stomach acid.
  • Some types of headaches can be relieved by drinking water.
  • Newborn babies are about 80% water, whereas adults are around 70% (any parent who has changed diapers all night can relate to just how much water is in a baby!).
  • Most healthy, average-weight people can drink up to 3 gallons of water a day without any ill effects.
  • There is such a thing as water poisoning, although it’s very rare – forcing yourself to drink too much water too fast (such as in a water-drinking contest) can result in hypothermia, which is when your electrolyte balance gets thrown off and your cells swell with water. When brain cells swell, hypothermia can be fatal.
  • Your body gets water from many of the foods you eat, especially fresh fruits and vegetables.

  • Water is a “universal solvent,” meaning it dissolves just about anything eventually. This means that water is nearly always carrying something along with it.
  • Earth’s atmosphere keeps water from escaping, so the same water that was around millions of years ago is still here. Talk about recycling!
  • The earth is composed of about 75% water (much like our bodies!), and of that water, approximately 97% is salt water.
  • Only about 1% of the world’s entire water supply is drinkable.
  • In 1832, the first municipal water filtration system opened in Paisley, Scotland.
  • Forty years later, in 1872, the first water filtration plant was built in Poughkeepsie, New York.
  • The earth’s total water mass is 326 million cubic miles.
  • In the United States, people use about 90 gallons of water each per day…much of this use is from flushing the toilet.
  • Water is fun, interesting, and everyone can relate to its use. Whether we lack it or enjoy an abundance of it, we've all experienced water.
