5 Hydration Facts You Need To Know

1. Thirst pains are real.

Yes, we have hunger pains, but did you know that we also have thirst pains? Often, we can’t rely on a dry mouth to tell us that we need a little more H2O. Chronic joint pain, headaches and gastric ulcers can often spell d-e-h-y-d-r-a-t-i-o-n. Water is needed to carry acidic waste away from cells, and when we’re dehydrated, these wastes don’t get carried away, leading to our nerves interpreting the acidic waste as pain.

2. If you’re tired, it may be dehydration.

One study conducted by Loughborough University found that a mere 5% drop in water levels in the body can cause a 25-30% loss in energy. Even a 3% drop can cause fuzzy thinking, “brain fog” and a slower metabolism. Another study conducted by University of Connecticut’s Human Performance Laboratory found that even a 1.5% water loss led to reduced cognitive function, headaches and fatigue in 25 women and 26 men.

3. Allergies and asthma can be linked to dehydration.

Dr. Batmanghelidj found that when the body is dehydrated, histamine begins to ration water, which in turn increases histamine and the allergic response and lowered immunity. Chronic dehydration triggers a histamine release in asthma sufferers, which leads to inflammation and bronchial constriction.

4. City water can mess with our digestion.

City water is chlorinated to remove pathogens and disinfect the water. Chlorine is a skin irritant (consider mounting a shower filter if you suffer from eczema or dry skin), pro-oxidant, and destroyer of friendly microflora and stomach acid. When our friendly microflora are wiped out, we can suffer from bloating and slower digestion, and when our stomach isn’t able to produce as much stomach acid and enzymes as it should, digestion can become downright uncomfortable.

5. How much water do you need?

It’s an individual thing, as water requirements vary from person to person. The amount of water we need depends on a number of factors, including our size, activity level, stress level, the climate or temperature and our diet. A good basic rule of thumb is to take your body weight (in pounds) and divide it by 2. This is the number of ounces of water that you should be drinking each day. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you will need 75 ounces of water per day. Divide this by 8 to get the number of 8-ounce glasses you should be drinking.

The Amazing Blueberries !

Heart Health

The National Institutes of Health conducted a study which examined how a diet rich in blueberries might affect heart health. The study, conducted on rats and published in the June 2009 issue of "PLoS One," showed that the blueberry-rich diet helped reduce inflammation within the heart and also reduced the risk of heart attack and heart failure.

Skin Health

Eating blueberries not only protects your body from the inside, it can also offer protection for the outside. One of the main causes of skin damage is sun exposure, specifically the sun's UV-B rays. These rays cause premature aging and wrinkling by damaging the skin's structure and destroying the skin's collagen. Researchers at the Department of Food and Nutrition and Korean Institute of Nutrition in Korea found that when skin cells were exposed to an extract from edible blueberries, it helped stop the degradation of the skin's collagen.

Drinking Water Keeps You Young

Drinking plenty of water is great for your skin. If you don't drink enough water, you'll suffer from dry skin, and you'll be likely to use more creams and lotions to moisturize. However, creams and lotions don't strike at the root of the problem. Drinking plenty of water keeps your skin moisturized and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
If you don't drink enough water, your body will try to retain it in order to conserve resources. This retention makes your skin puffy and can even lead to bloating.

Health Benefits of Berries !

Let’s take a look at how these tasty treats can help keep you healthy !
Pretty much all berries are loaded to the brim with antioxidants. For those who don’t know, antioxidants help prevent illness, improve your skin and hair, and lead to a healthier life. Berries are low in calories and that means you can load up on them without packing on the pounds. Because they are juicy they contain a lot of water, so much of their mass is really water, which contains no calories at all. A medium sized strawberry has between three and six calories.
Pretty much all berries consist of about 85% water. The rest is mostly fiber and fiber is an integral part of a healthy diet. It helps you stay regular and maintain your weight, and is essential for bowel health. This is standard for pretty much all fruit. For each piece of fat-free, cholesterol-free, nutrient-packed berry you eat, that’s one step further away from heart disease you’ll come.
Research published in the Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis suggests that flavonoids and other compounds found in berries may help reduce colon cancer risk. Because cancer prevention diets generally emphasize fruits and vegetables, including berries certainly won’t hurt. Again, Copperman stresses, any cancer-preventing benefit is enhanced by the inclusion of many different colors of fruits and veggies.
Vitamin C is another strong antioxidant found in berries. It is largely responsible for the health of collagen, which helps maintain cartilage stores and aids in joint flexibility. Eating vitamin C–rich berries will contribute to radiant skin and healthy hair, and may reduce the risk of arthritis, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
Try adding berries to your water, so you can easily increase the intake of them.

Alkaline water !

Clean, pure water is a cornerstone of good health. Your body is mostly water, so the ongoing intake of water is essential to your every function.
- Dr. Mercola
h2o
The number one source of calories in the U.S. comes from high fructose corn syrup primarily in the form of soda. Americans drink an average of one gallon of soda each week, and this excessive fructose consumption is a driving force behind obesity and chronic degenerative disease in this country.
The most practical and economical strategy to combat obesity and chronic disease is to replace all sodas and other sweet beverages with pure water. Beyond water filtration, there’s also the issue of pH - alkaline versus acidic water. There are quite a few astonishing health claims being made about alkaline water, but are they true?

Alkaline water

Water that has been separated into alkaline and acid fractions using electrolysis, which takes advantage of the naturally occurring electric charges found in the magnesium and calcium ions; in the drinking water industry.

There has been a great deal of debate about battling cancer by making your body alkaline. This has become a focus of interest as cancer rates have skyrocketed. The scientific research about the benefits of Alkaline Water it's still not conclusive but here are the points of their studies:
  • Normal cells die under extremely alkaline conditions. A study published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry found that alkalosis (rising cellular pH) causes alkaline-induced cell death as a result of altering mitochondrial function.
  • Another study out of Cornell University states that antioxidants have not proven to be effective against many neurodegenerative diseases, and they state it may be a result of how the mitochondria operate within the cell in certain pH conditions.
Here are the benefits of Alkaline Water:

1. DETOXIFY

Detoxify your body to remove normal acidic waste products accumulated daily, plus remove toxins accumulated in your body from your environment, prescription drugs, unnatural foods and from the “normal” process of aging.

2. HYDRATE

Hydrate your body: this is basic to maintain or regain optimum health.

3. OXYGENATE / ANTIOXIDANTS

Alkaline water acts as an antioxidant, scavenging for and neutralizing harmful free radicals. Because alkaline water has the ability to give up electrons, it can effectively neutralize and block free-radical damage to the body.

4. ALKALIZE YOUR BODY’S pH

Alkaline water helps balance the body’s pH, which tends to be acidic because of our high acid food diet, stress and exposure to environmental toxins such as smog.

5. ENHANCE YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

Enhance your immune system to maximize your body’s ability to fight off disease and heal itself.
Try this water on you Infuser Water Bottle, also add fruit to it in order for you to make some Fruity Flavored Drinks !

Do you really need to drink eight cups of water a day?

On average, your body loses 1 to 1.5 litres of water a day. If someone is undertaking a lot of activity, and therefore breathing and sweating more, they would lose more.
Dr Barnard says: 'It is not essential to always drink a set amount regardless of circumstances. The body is very good at regulating water.
'If you drink too much, your body will get rid of the excess, so you will pass urine more often and it will look almost clear.
'If you don't drink enough, your body will save water by concentrating your urine, which will look darker, and your brain will tell you that you need more water by making you feel thirsty.'
Another thing to keep in mind is that water is found in fruits, vegetables, milk and juices. Water from these sources will go some way to meeting your daily requirements, so people do not need to drink a full eight glasses of water on top of this.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF DRINKING COLD WATER

Water is the Best Drink for Health
Doctors have always stressed on the fact to keep hydrated water is the best option for your health. When you traditionally follow the eight to ten glass water rule, it’s best to consume water every hour of the day.  Cold water becomes a good option to not only quench your thirst, but to also cool you down, especially if you reside in hot places or just generally perspire a lot. When you feel all heated up and dehydrated after a heavy workout or an intense cardio session, it’s best to drink some cold water. It helps bring down your body temperature immediately.  Drinking water plenty of water ensures low levels of constipation.

So what are the health benefits of drinking cold water?  While most of us already know the health benefits of drinking water what few realize is there are health benefits to drinking cold water.  One health benefit of cold water is its ability to help you lose weight and burn calories.  It has been medically proven that your body tends to burn more energy, when cold water is being consumed.  Calories are burned when your body has to heat up the water to normal body temperature.  By drinking cold water your metabolism is increased.  The amount of calories your body burns to heat up one glass of ice cold water is minimal.  However, this can add up if you drink multiple glasses of ice-cold water throughout the day.
Health Benefits of Cold Water Therapy
Outside of just drinking cold water studies have shown that there are health benefits from taking a cold water shower.  Cold water therapy has been embraced around the world and been practiced by many Indians all over.  The health benefit that comes from cold water therapy is that your body gains resilience through managed stress.  Simply put, by exposing your body to managed routine stress like cold water, intermittent fasting, or intense exercise increases your bodies overall health.  Cold water therapy has been around in India for a long time.  The ancient Indian term for very cold showers is ishnan.  It is said, that this cold water therapy helps keep your body young and healthy.

Hydrated Brain: Yes, your brain needs water.

Our brains depend on proper hydration to function optimally. Brain cells require a delicate balance between water and various elements to operate, and when you lose too much water, that balance is disrupted. Your brain cells lose efficiency.

The brain is one of the most important organs in your body to keep fueled. It is approximately 85 percent water and brain function depends on having abundant access to water.

Water gives the brain the electrical energy for all brain functions, including thought and memory processes.

Water is also needed for the brain's production of hormones and neurotransmitters. Nerve transmission requires one-half of all the brain’s energy.

One of the most fascinating aspects of neurons is that they store water in tiny balloon-like structures called vacuoles.  Water is essential for optimal brain health and function.  Water is necessary to maintain the tone of membranes for normal neurotransmission. It enhances circulation and aids in removing wastes. Water keeps the brain from overheating, which can cause cognitive decline and even damage.  This is one of the main reasons to encourage students to drink water during exercise. Dehydration most commonly occurs because children go long periods of time without drinking water.  When they are thirsty they often choose sweetened drinks instead of water.  By the time thirst is felt, there may be a loss of body weight up to 2% from water loss, and a 10% cognitive decline may be present. Dehydration can lead to fatigue, dizziness, poor concentration and reduced cognitive abilities.  Even mild levels of dehydration can impact school performance.

Children in classrooms can be given structured water breaks or encouragement to keep a water bottle at their desks to sip throughout the day to achieve the recommended intake of 8 glasses a day, with 4 consumed during the school day.

Stay hydrated and try drinking water, at least your 8 oz. You can try getting a reusable bottle, maybe an Infuser Water Bottle and take your water everywhere you go.

Live healthy, drink healthy.

Watch out for fancy coffee drinks filled with calories ...

Change Up that Coffee !

We know they’re tempting, but watch out for fancy coffee drinks filled with calories.

Switch from a Frappuccino to just regular coffee and lose 100 calories or more. Next, skip the sugar or use a zero-calorie sweetener instead. Just three sugar packets equal 33 calories, so all it takes is three cups of coffee to reach 100 calories in sugar intake alone.

If what you like needs to have a more sweet fruity flavored then you can just try Infusing Water with fruits, that way you'll have a Fruit Infused Water with much less calories than a frapp, try it !
